Karen Capp, Co-founder of Oopsy Daisy:
- Working more productively with a manufacturer you are licensing with/or want to license with.
- Trends in the marketplace (home decor and gift) where we will see growth in themes and product categories plus popular styles/colors.
- Managing expectations
Ingrid Liss, Product Developer for Midwest/CBK
- Trends – for the gift and home decor industries, focusing on current graphic, illustration, typography, materials and techniques with focus on how to interpret for designing gift and home decor.
- Inspiration to create new ideas and visions for great product, especially holiday oriented as well as everyday and sentimental.
Betsy Cordes, Art Brand Advisor
Betsy will help us explore greater possibilities for our businesses. In this workshop, we’ll:
- Explore the difference between the “licensing artist” mindset and the “art brand” mindset
- Participate in a guided visualization to access a more expansive vision for our business.
- Engage in exercises to better define our personal values and explore their place in our business’s mission.
- Better define our customer (hint: think beyond the art director!)
- Discuss how we can begin making subtle but meaningful shifts in our business right away, to build a more authentic connection with our brand’s audience
Chuck Cordes, Intellectual Property Attorney:
Chuck will help us explore legal strategies for art brands, including:
- How to become more savvy about our art licensing agreements, with an overview of the standard terms in these agreements. We’ll take a deeper look at what might be missing or misunderstood in licensing agreements.
- How to think beyond copyright law, to understand the power of trademark law as we build our art brand business.
- Give us suggested language to use with licensing partners when negotiating terms, to help us become more effective advocates for our brand’s best interest.
Anne Brown, of Studio M and Linda Simpson, of Imagination Network, both very experienced product developers, will be attending and helping with portfolio reviews. In addition, they will review and critique a Creative Challenge that you will complete that is applicable to your business and that you can take home and use in your business.
Pre-ArtBizJam Assignments: The product developer guest instructors are each offering optional challenges to complete prior to ABJ. They will review your challenge results at ArtBizJam.
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 7
Goodbyes and hugs! Warning: You will return home with new friendships, a creative and caring network and full of creative energy!
In everyone’s life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit. Albert Schweitzer (1875 -1965)
